A Deep Field filly to race in NSW
Another one to leading trainer John Thompson
Last year when I attended the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale I was taken with some of the progeny of Armidale Stud’s first season sire Needs Further. They certainly looked like racehorses and this assessment has been backed up with them coming out running and for one of his daughters being the first stakes winner of the first season sires in Australia. This is impressive.
Unfortunately, I was the under bidder to a filly in that sale by Needs Further. I wasn’t going to miss out this year and the filly I purchased was one of four I really liked and had vetted.
The four I liked were well received by the market selling for up to $60,000 although this filly was the one I wanted.
She is very athletic and has nice length to her. Having written that she also quite strong and possesses a wonderful hindquarter. She has an attractive head and has inherited the a very important characteristic that Last Tycoon puts into a pedigree. He really tidies up the progeny and puts a lot of quality into the foals. She is a terrific chance of doing the job for us and is the first Prime yearling purchased for Stuart Gandy.
By Deep Field
Deep Field was a very fast horse five races including two at Group 2 level, a Listed race and he was placed 3rd in the VRC Lightning Stakes. He has a superb pedigree being by the ill-fated Northern Meteor who looked like being a super star but died prematurely leaving three sire sons including Australia’s Leading 2YO Sire this season in Zoustar as well as the highly credentialed Shooting To Win and Eurozone who looks like making a name for himself at stud.
Most good sires have a strong female line and that is certainly the case here with Deep Field being out of the very good race mare Listen Here. She is also the dam of the Caulfield Guineas winner, Shooting To Win.
Out of Cattalo
Cattalo is by the Danehill line horse Tiger Hill who has been a great success as a broodmare sire. Most of his best results are overseas with his best performed runner here being Almandin, the 2016 Melbourne Cup winner.
This is only her third foal. The 2nd foal is a Sizzling colt trained by Lee Curtis who has a very good opinion of her.
The 2nd dam is by Marscay and was a 2yo Sydney winner. She has had six to race for five winners including the stakes placed Toqique which was also placed 4th in the AJC Randwick Guineas.
The 3rd dam is the Champion mare Mannerism the dam of the Moonee Valley Oaks and the Group 3 winner and sire Manner Hill.
