Paulele / Ventura filly 2024
Stuart Gandy to Train
10% shares $15,500 – 5% shares $7,750

When I inspected this filly at the Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale I asked myself the question ‘Why was she not at the Gold Coast Magic Millions or in the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale’.

She is the best filly I have ever inspected at the Tasmanian Sale. She is faultless as a type. She is strong, well grown and oozes class. She has a terrific hindquarter and is very strong through the shoulder. She looks like a runner and comes from one of the very best families in the Australian Stud Book. She is one of only five yearlings in the catalogue with two dams on the page which shows the strength of the family behind her.

These two mares on the page are Ventura and Peach have had 17 race with 15 winning. Included are the Group 1 winner Denman, Group 1 winner Preserve, Listed winner Rio Osa with the Golden

Slipper winner out of one of Peach’s daughters. As well we have Safeguard a multiple Group winner is out of another daughter.

This filly will suit Stuart Gandy who is one of the best trainers of 2yo’s in Australia. Stuart Gandy has won the Tasmanian Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic for Prime Thoroughbreds as well as training the outstanding 2 and 3yo filly Zany Girl and this season Tasmania’s best 2yo filly Momentslikethese.

On what I’ve seen Paulele has a great chance of being a successful sire. I have had great success syndicating the progeny of first season sires. I have highlighted some of our successes below.

First Season Sire Results – Prime Thoroughbreds

I have had amazing success purchasing yearlings by first season sires. Some of our best results have been:

Rubisaki ($85,000) – Rubick’s best filly or mare.
Fituese ($55,000) – Deep Field, NSW BOBS Horse Of The Year
Unchain My Heart ($45,000) – Al Maher, won VRC Ramsden Stakes twice
Under Command ($35,000) – Commands first Group 1 performer
Miss Divine Em ($47,500) – Super One’s third highest earning filly or mare
Embeller ($90,000) – Super One’s only Group or Listed placed mare
out of his first crop.
Zizzis ($100,000) – Sizzling, Adelaide Magic Millions winner
Casa De Lago ($60,000) – Delago Deluxe’s only stakes horse
Seonee ($80,000) – Winning Rupert’s most winning horse
Flattered ($130,000) – Yes Yes Yes’s best filly or mare
Power Of The Brave $80,000) – Brave Smash’s most winning horse
Cavalry Girl ($110,000) – Bivouac’s second best filly in Australia
Miss Lyra ($40,000) – Lucky Vega’s third best filly in Australia
Momentslikethese ($40,000) – Tiger Of Malay’s best horse and only ‘Black
Type’ performer.

Paulele

Paulele was an outstanding juvenile performer. He was very precocious winning three races at two including the ATC Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick which is a highly regarded race.

At three he won the ATC Eskimo Prince Stakes and ATC Roman Consul Stakes. These are two very important races.

At four he won the Group 1 WATC Winterbottom Stakes and MRC Schillaci Stakes.

He has a great female line being out of the Flying Spur mare Chatoyant who had eight to race with seven winning. This is the family of Bonaria. It doesn’t get much better.

Ventura

Ventura is by Champion Sire Lonhro out of the Vain mare Peach, one of the best mares to have gone to stud in Australia.

Ventura only had six starts but was placed in five of them, two of these were in Sydney. She has done a good job at stud with five to race for four winners including Milsons Point which was placed second in the Listed Blue Diamond Prelude and then ran in the Blue Diamond on
21 February 2026.

Lonhro is one of our very best Broodmare Sires with Observer the winner of the Group 1 Australian Guineas out of one of his daughters. Lonhro sits in sixth position on the Australian Broodmare List.

I have pasted the pedigree of Ventura to highlight the absolute strength of it. She was by Lonhro who was a once in a generation horse by the great Octagonal who was by Zabeel who was by Sir Tristram.

Lonhro’s dam Shadea was an outstanding race filly winning the AJC Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes and was placed 2nd in the Group 1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes and AJC Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

On her dam side Ventura is out of the Vain mare Peach who was an absolute super star mare with Peach being out of Market Maid by The Champion sire Marscay. Market Maid is a ½ sister to Champion mare and AJC Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Dark Eclipse.

The 4 th dam Marjoram produced one of Australia’s greatest ever horses in Taj Rossi.

Stuart Gandy

Stuart Gandy has done a great job for Prime Thoroughbreds. These statistics tell the story.

It is important to note that three of the four fillies Stuart has trained for me that I bought him as yearlings are ‘Black Type’ performers. The four raced 27 times for Stuart for 7 wins at 26% strike rate and have returned $546,538 in prizemoney and sales receipts. The four cost just $222,000.

Three of the four were bought from Armidale Stud with all four Magic Millions Sales purchases. Zany Girl, Momentslikethese and Copper Reign are still in our racing team and these three combined worth is a lot more than the $222,000 the four cost me to purchase!!!
