Tom Dabernig To Train

At this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale I’ve had about 40 yearlings vetted.  This is an expensive exercise but necessary to ensure our owners buy into horses that give them the best chance of getting a runner. It is a tough sale with yearling after yearling we had selected going for, in some cases ridiculous prices.

Since x-rays became available we have had just two yearlings not get to the races from about 180 purchased.  In total since we started in 1997 we have 349 of 364 yearlings get to the races.  These are exceptional figures but give our owners confidence they are buying into will get to the track.

This filly passed all our checks.  She is correct and vetted out without any issues.  I expected her to fetch about $150,000 and was pleasantly surprised when we secured her for $132,000 incl GST.  This filly could well prove to be one of the best buys in the sale.

The filly is by the great sire Nicconi, the sire of the World Champion sprinter Nature Strip.  Nicconi has sired 524 winners with 46 stakes horses including William Thomas a stakes winner of seven races who is out of a Fastnet Rock mare like our filly.  There have been seven individual winners by Nicconi from just nine to race.

The filly is out of a the Fastnet Rock mare Judicial Rock who was stakes placed in the group 3 MRC Summoned Stakes.  She has had two to race with both winning including My Eloise who won at just her 3rd start in November after good runs at Warwick Farm and Gosford.

Fastnet Rock is the sire of 42 Group 1 winners including Atlantic Jewel, Shoals, Nechita, Sea Siren and Catchy.

As a broodmare sire Fastnet Rock’s daughters have thrown Tivaci, Santa Ana Lane, Gytrash and Glint Of Hope.

The filly is from the family of the Group 1 performer Lawyer who won at Group 2 level and was placed in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes and Group 1 Canterbury Stakes.

The filly will be paid up for the rich Magic Millions Series of races and will head to Tom Dabernig to train.  My expectations are the filly will race as a 2yo but be at her best at three and older.  If this filly was to win a Listed or Group race she would be worth a small fortune.

I have purchased some great fillies over the years from the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale including Flying Jess, Hijack Hussy, Xtremetime, Calming, Huiskes, Hidden Wonder, Greenmount Belle and Calming Influence.
