Shamus Award filly out of Glenmaura  – Tom Dabernig to Train

5% shares $10,750
10% shares $21,500

This filly is by a sire who can get a really good horse. Shamus Award only won two races, but they were real races.  He won Australia’s best race, the MVRC Group 1 WS Cox Plate and the Group 1 VRC Australian Guineas. On top of this he was placed in eight of our best races.  These included the MRC Group 1 Caulfield Guineas which I rate as Australia’s best race for 3yo’s. He was also placed in the VRC Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate, a high profile early 2yo race.  He went on to run 5th in the MRC Group 1 Blue Diamond and then 2nd in the VRC Group 2 Sire’s Produce Stakes.

He then came back as a 3yo and was placed in the MVRC Listed McKenzie Stakes, 2nd in the MVRC Group 2 Stutt Stakes before winning the Cox Plate as a maiden!!!  He then ran 3rd in the MRC Group 1 CF Orr Stakes as a 3yo against the older horses before winning the VRC Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington where he beat a superstar in Criterion. If he hadn’t enough, they backed him up against the best older horses going around in the VRC Group 1 Australian Cup won by Fiorente and then sent him to Sydney where he had his last race in the STC Group 1 Rosehill Guineas won by Criterion.  Shamus Award was an amazing racehorse!!!

As a sire he has excelled.  He started out standing at Widden Stud where he did a remarkable job siring 20 stakes winners including five serious Group 1 winners in Incentivise, Duais, Mr Quickie, El Patroness and Media Award.  He has never had big crops of yearlings, so his results are even more impressive.

Shamus Award was bred at a great Thoroughbred Nursery in Ascot Farm by Champion Sire Snitzel out of the Success Express mare Sunset Express.  Success Express is one of our great broodmare sires.  We had terrific success with the progeny of his son Mossman.

Some of the horses bred out of Success Express’s daughters include Savabeel, Gold Edition, Duporth, Wonderful World, Excites, Pinker Pinker, Vouvray, Oratorio, Squamosa and Tickets.  He was a massive influence on our breeding industry.

This filly’s dam Glenmaura by Bel Esprit only had 12 starts winning three races including a Caulfield win.

Bel Esprit was a super racehorse winning eight races including the MRC Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes which saw him unbeaten after five 2yo runs. He was then 5th in the Golden Slipper Stakes.

As a broodmare sire, he has done a good job with his daughters producing the Group 1 winners Ole Kirk, Costa Viva and the Hong Kong superstar Beauty Generation which won 16 ‘Black Type’ races. His daughters have produced the winners of $58,019,751 in stakes earnings.

Glenmaura has had just the one to race with this filly by Shamus Award being only her fourth foal.  Princess Mavee has now won 11 races, winning her past four in the Philippines.

The most impressive aspect to this filly is that she is every bit as good a sort as she has a pedigree.

We are very particular when buying our yearlings to make sure they are the types of horses that can win races.  This filly is as good a type as I have ever purchased and probably the best- looking Shamus Award I have inspected.  She is simply outstanding.

The filly will be trained by Tom Dabernig who has done a great job for us.  He has a superb stable at Warrnambool with access to a great variety of different training tracks and facilities including use of the beach at Lady Bay.

This has proved a winner for us with Tom rejuvenating Tillotson in particular by utilizing the facilities at the beach.

I couldn’t imagine offering a better filly to our owners.
