This is an outstanding filly by Bivouac, a superb sprinter and First Season Sire by the Champion Sire Exceed And Excel. I loved this filly from the moment I inspected her. She is the 2nd Bivouac filly I have purchased this year. They are both outstanding athletes. I rate Bivouac very highly and love supporting colonial sires in their first year. Bivouac has all the characteristics to be a success at stud in Australia. He won twice as a 2yo including the ATC Group 2 Kindergarten Stakes. He won the Group 1 ATC Golden Rose, VRC Group 1 Newmarket Handicap, VRC Group 1 Sprint Classic and was named Joint Head Of The WTR (Sprint) in 2020. He was co-champion 3yo Male Sprinter in Australia in 2019/20. The First Season Sires, particularly those standing at our more established studs often get the best book of mares in their first season. The stallion owners are keen to give their new sires the best possible opportunity to be a success. I spoke with Vin Cox the General Manager of Godolphin in Australia and he was very bullish about Bivouac when he went to stud.

This filly is a lovely moving filly with an attractive head and she is very strong behind.  She looks like a 2yo to me and as an August foal will be given her chance to run in the early 2yo races later in the year. She reminded me a lot of Rubisaki when I saw her at the sales. Could she be our next winner of the Inglis Series Race?

She will really suit Tom Dabernig who has terrific experience in preparing early 2yo’s.

Islands

This is the I Am Invincible mare Islands’ first foal. I love buying foals from young mares. Islands comes from a great running family with her being a ½ sister to the outstanding 2yo Military Rose. Military Rose won six races with five of these being in succession including the GCTC Magic Millions 2YO Classic, STC Reisling Stakes, BRC BJ McLachlan Stakes, BRC Calaway Gal Stakes and the Gold Coast Guineas as a 3yo. Military Rose was a success at stud with her daughters throwing the Espionage, the Group 3 ATC Breeders Plate winner this season and Flashing Steel which was Group 3 placed in the ATC Canonbury Stakes.  These are two high-class stakes races for 2yo’s. Islands comes from a family that has given us the outstanding racehorses Zeditave, Zedegal, Alannon,Unison, Melito, Zestful and Cloister. Vinery Stud where the filly was reared is in the Hunter Valley and is one of our very best nurseries.

I Am Invincible had a great day with Kimochi out of one his daughters winning the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick on 17/02/24.

Down the page, this reads very well with the 1st dam by I Am Invincible, the 2nd dam by Flying Spur and the 3rd dam by Marauding, all champion sires.

The Trainer

The first horse I sent Tom was Double Rock who had been having issues jarring up on the firm tracks, which we had to put up with during the drought. The mare has matured and really blossomed in the great environment at Warrnambool. First up she finished a close second to a smart galloper and backed this up with two more second placings and then a strong win, which she richly deserved. It is important mares win a race before going to stud and Tom achieved this goal. It didn’t take Tom long to get us off the mark with our 2nd runner Tillotson scoring twice, firstly at Stawell and then at Moonee Valley in Saturday company where she ran a class record. She is a little high-strung and had been struggling being trained at Randwick, which is an incredibly busy environment with Warrnambool being a perfect fit for her. I moved Embeller to Tom with the aim being getting ‘Black Type’, which is so important for mares going forward as breeders. Tom almost pulled off a great training performance with Embeller running a close 2nd in the Group 3 Bow Mistress Stakes first up for him. He got the mare the valuable ‘Black Type’ we were chasing. Only bad luck cost us the win. She was then retired and I look forward to inspecting her yearlings in due course. Tom then stepped out a 3yo filly named Whistlefield winning her maiden impressively and running two nice races in the city from just three starts.

We now have eight horses with Tom and I’m thrilled with the way he handles his horses. He is an outstanding communicator and his attention to detail is second to none.

Embeller – Tom did a great job with her getting ‘Black Type first up in the TRC Group 3 Bow Mistress Stakes!!!

Tom did a great job with the wayward mare winning twice with her in the first preparation with him, including this win at Moonee Valley

in Class Record time!!!

Whistlefield breaking her maiden at only her second start for Tom Dabernig!!!
