Half-brother to The Devil In Her – Patrick Payne to train.

10% shares $28,500 5 % shares $14,250

This colt is a cracker and I have been watching him develop since he was a foal. He is a stunning type with great conformation and terrific strength through his hindquarters. He is the ½ brother to our outstanding prospect The Devil In Her. He is a better type than she was as a yearling. I often write it is more important where a foal is reared than who its parents are. In this case this fellow was reared at Musk Creek Farm which has a great reputation for breeding winners. The colt heads to Patrick Payne who trains The Devil In Her for us.

Brazen Beau

I know Brazen Beau very well. He was from I Am Invincible’s first crop of yearlings and was a brilliant racehorse with a great turn of foot. I had syndicated the first I Am Invincible in Australia. Sadly, she was killed in a paddock accident, but I closely followed the progeny of the Champion Sire. Brazen Beau burst on the scene and only had a dozen starts but won The VRC Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and VRC Group 1 Newmarket Handicap as a 3yo. He was also very effective in Sydney where he won the ATC Group 3 Roman Consul Stakes and in Brisbane where he won the BRC Group 2 Champagne Stakes. He was placed 2 nd in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. He beat some outstanding sprinters including Chataqua by 2.75 lengths. The Coolmore Stakes he won was probably as good an edition of the race ever run. He beat Earthquake, Eloping, Rubick, Rich Enuff, Nostradamus and our very good sprinter Husson Eagle. Brazen Beau was purchased by Darley and has stood in Victoria for his whole stud career. His results are very good when you consider he has had fertility issues with his average crop in Australia averaging just 62 yearlings. Brazen Beau is a striking looking horse and has thrown to his dam being a rich brown colour. Brazen Beau’s conversion of winners to stakes winners is very good running at 9% with only the very best sires reaching 10% or better. Our two top sires at present, I Am Invincible runs at 11.6% and So You Think at 9.6% with Written Tycoon just 6.8%. Brazen Beau was the Leading Sire of 2yo in NZ in the 2020/21 Season and is currently sitting in 4 th position on the Australian 2yo List ahead of the likes of I Am Invincible and Snitzel.

Leny’s Here

This is Leny’s Here’s 4 th foal. She is a beautiful mare by Husson out of the Group 1 winner Devil Moon. She is also related to the good horses Turner Bayou, Skybeau and the very fast horse Natchez. There is an old saying you don’t buy out of a Champion race mare, but you do out of her daughters. I have a big opinion of Husson and had great success racing his progeny which included our very good sprinter Husson Eagle. I followed Husson closely when he arrived in Australia to stand at Patinack Farm and was the lead to buying Rubisaki and Zizzis after I purchased there ½ sister Husson’s Kiss by Husson which had good ability but her career was cut short through injury. When I inspected Leny’s Here’s second foal at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale I was determined to purchase her. She was a stunning filly and very athletic by Champion Sire Sebring.

My decision to purchase her was vindicated with her producing thee amazing wins in her short career. It was interesting that Bill Egan recommended to his mother that she buy into The Devil in Her after he rode her as an early 2yo. The Devil In Her’s win at Sandown on 10/01/23 was very impressive. Her maiden win was quite extraordinary when she careered away from her opposition after not much went right in the run. The Devil In Her looks a ‘Black Type’ performer. I’ve been watching the family closely and there is plenty happening. 2yo Rag Queen was super impressive winning on debut 06/01/23 at ATC Canterbury and was her sire D’Argento’s first winner and on 09/12/23 Dream Hour won the $300,000 BRC Gateway with Kris Lees heading to the Group 1 Stadbroke during the Queensland Winer Carnival

This is only Leny’s Here’s fourth foal. Her breeder has decided to keep the 3 rd foal which is a filly by Capitalist. This may prove to be a very good move. These great running families keep throwing up good horses and Leny’s Here might just be a very good broodmare. As an aside I have only raced three horses out of Husson mares with the other two being the Tasmanian Derby winner The Nephew and Another Nephew who is yet to win but been placed 2 nd on five occasions.

The Breeder

David Kobritz and Teresa Poon own Musk Creek Farm on the Mornington Peninsular and have great success breeding tough and talented horses at the property. It is a magnificent property. David is highly regarded and has raced some great horses including Subzero and Danzero and sold Pierro as a yearling.

The Trainer

Patrick Payne has been a remarkable success for Prime Thoroughbreds. Here is a summary of the yearlings purchased from 2013 to 2020 for Patrick by Prime Thoroughbreds to have raced. In total 35 of the 45 yearlings to have raced are winners having won 116 races and returned $7,357,748 to date in stakes money (In addition to this the retired mares were sold for $1,664,500 in Public Auctions on completion of their careers with Prime Thoroughbreds. This takes the gross returns to $9,022,248). The 35 winners collectively were purchased for just $2,427,500 ($69,357 average purchase price). Seven of the 35 winners are still racing in our team. I expect Flattered, Xaphan, Hot Gospel, Hell Of A Trip and Another Nephew which have raced but not won to win races. This would see us having 38 winners from the first 44 horses to race with Patrick (86%). The current value of the seven still in our team is probably greater than the combined purchase price of all the winners to have raced with Quang Tri, Seonee, Birdies Galore and The Devil In Her valuable breeding propositions.

Six of the horses I syndicated with Patrick failed to make the grade and win a race. I have been thrilled with Patrick’s handling of our horses and we have been building up a nice team with him. An impressive part of our story has been 51.4% (18 of 35) of the winners with Patrick are Stakes, Magic Millions, Inglis Race Series or Metropolitan winners. Patrick is an outstanding conditioner of horses and probably the best jumps trainer in Australia. Patrick has done a remarkable job with the colts I have syndicated with him. He does a great job educating them and bringing them through. 12 of the 13 colts I have syndicated with him to race have gone on to win. Patrick has a big advantage over many of his rivals with outstanding riders educating his team. These include Steve Arnold and Bill Egan.
